Marlon, a Costa Rican, and Jacky, a Panamanian, met in 2000, and while some might consider it a cliche, it was love at first sight, or in their case, love at first chat. After months of sharing long chats on the internet, the friendship and love grow between them, getting married in December, 2000.
He was reared in a Catholic family, and while he did not practice it, it took him more than 10 years to finally accept that there is only one church, one God, and one mediator, Jesus Christ, the Son of God (Ephesians 4:4; 1 Timothy 2:5). He obeyed the Gospel in February 2011. He graduated from Memphis School of Preaching (MSOP) in June 2016, and also completed the MSOP World Missions Program in June 2017. Previously, he labored as Business Analysis Advisor at Dell, being computers and programming some of his biggest passions before his decision to become a Gospel preacher.
She was reared in the church. Her father, Tomas Haughton has been a Gospel preacher for more than 40 years in Panama. She obeyed the Gospel a few weeks before getting married. She is passionate about helping and encouraging people and love to do embroidery, to paint, and to prepare material for Bible classes.
He is their only child, obeyed the Gospel in October, 2016, and would like to study Graphic Arts / Graphic Design, or Architecture. He usually helps with leading the songs and other parts of the worship service.
Since their return to Panama, after finished their studies at MSOP, they started to work on several projects, visiting several congregations in Panama, and having Bible studies every week at their home. Their main goal has been to establish a new congregation at their return, which they did, having initiated the work on January 6th, 2019 with Iglesia de Cristo en Las Villas where Marlon is the current evangelist. Before they started this work, they realized that they needed more experience in the local field, and also saw the need that existing congregations have, and decided to give their best to help them to achieve the same goals that they have, to have sound, faithful, self-supported, and organized congregations, hoping to see results in the next 10-15 years. A lot of documentation has been translated into Spanish and made available to the brethren through websites and social media. Before planting this new congregation, they helped at Iglesia de Cristo en Torrijos Carter (from May 2017 to January 2018) and later moved to Iglesia de Cristo en Vista Hermosa, as the leadership of this congregation reached Marlon to be their evangelist, a task which he did for a short time and remained there until the work at Las Villas was started.
